Mountains
Mountains is a writing desk and chair set made of elm wood. The form draws on the traditional Chinese recessed-leg table with everted flanges. The raised ends of the desktop reduce the chance of items falling during writing or painting. The front edge has a slight slope that supports a comfortable working posture. A compartment is placed under the desk for storage. The curved back of the chair recalls the mountain shapes of Chinese landscape painting, and a cushion is added to the seat. The desktop is hand spliced, while other parts are shaped by computer controlled milling.
Mountains Writing Desk by Wei Jingye / 魏靖野 was highlighted as a creative representation of industrial design by the A' Design Awards. Mountains Writing Desk received the Iron A' Design Award in Furniture Design in 2022. The A' Furniture Design Award is an international, juried, academic and meritocratic design award which recognizes excellent design of chairs, tables, sofas, beds, cabinets, shelves, desks, wardrobes and more.
